Do you accept who you really are?
Do you believe in yourself?
Believing in oneself may not come easily but it is the key to achieving success.
There is an underlying requirement that to believe in yourself; you must develop self-confidence, self-acceptance and ultimately self-love. Of course, before we can have self-acceptance, we must first understand the true meaning of the phrase.
Self-acceptance requires us to accept who we are at face value. To bask in the limelight of self-acceptance, we must acknowledge all the good and ‘bad’ about ourselves. We must embrace the positive and negative side of the traits and characteristics that form who we are as an individual. Self-acceptance is a significant indicator of our mental and emotional wellness. It challenges us to be okay with others seeing who we really are.
Ways to Achieve Self-Acceptance
To achieve self-acceptance, we must become the architect of the plan that will get us there.
Here are six components you must practice as your blueprint for self-acceptance.
#1 Build Your Self-Esteem
A significant factor in genuinely accepting yourself is self-esteem. Our self-esteem represents how we feel about ourselves. High self-esteem protects us from being vulnerable to other peoples’ opinions or criticism of us, and from being susceptible to negative energy. High self-esteem inspires us.
You can boost your self-esteem by practicing the following steps:
• Know your worth
• Remove the negative people and energy from your life
• Learn to hear and accept the positive things people have to say about you
• Appreciate your attributes and qualities
• Celebrate your achievements and successes every day
#2 Practice Mindfulness
Research has shown that there is a genuine relationship between mindfulness and well-being which contributes to the acceptance of self. Mindfulness is the practice of being self-aware and purposefully present without judgment. Mindfulness will improve the overall quality of your life and emotional and mental well-being.
#3 Build a Support System
Self-acceptance requires us to create a circle of positive people who also accept us for who we are. Your support system should only include people who want to see you and, in some instances, are even willing to help you reach your goals in life. They should be there to cheer you on during times of triumph and raise you up during those times when you are struggling.
#4 Know and Reinforce Your Strengths
Take note of your strengths then work on adding more power to them. We each have things we do well and things we don’t do so well. While it is important to recognize those weaknesses, we don’t have to dwell on them. Instead, seek out opportunities that allow you to flex your talented muscles. Take classes or volunteer for opportunities that will enable you to use or build your strengths. Make sure you are working in a job or building a business that will allow you to do those things you are so good at doing.
#5 Silence Your Inner Naysayer
We all have an inner critic who lives deep within our soul. He/she makes an appearance from time to time dropping little kernels of self-doubt. Do not allow your inner naysayer to prevent you from accepting the qualities that define you. Those negative thoughts can have a detrimental effect on your ability to accept yourself. Banish your naysayer by being mindful of your negative thoughts and switch them to positive and empowering thoughts about yourself. Getting to the place where you accept who you are unconditionally may be difficult at first, but you CAN achieve it.
#6 Celebrate Success
Celebrating your successes may be a cliché, but the power of attaining a “win” can be an excellent motivator. Celebrating personal victories does not necessarily mean throwing a party, but instead, consider journaling your success and all the factors that contributed to it. Call your family and friends and share your story. Thank people who were instrumental in your positive outcome. Give yourself a hug!
Self-acceptance is about coming to accept who you really are. You were born with unique gifts that you are here to share with the world as your Divine Mission and Purpose. Without self-acceptance, you won’t have the self-confidence to step out, be seen and shine your light. Acceptance does not happen overnight but requires consistent practice using the six steps described in this article. It’s a daily ritual of sorts that you should practice and repeat each and every day to achieve mastery. You are the architect of your self-acceptance blueprint. Do not allow others or your inner voice within to sway you from accepting and loving who you are.
