On 19th February 2019, I was walking my dog when I slipped on some ice under the snow and had a crashing fall onto my right shoulder. Fortunately, my neighbors were walking their dog towards me and saw me lying on the ground. They came over to help and then took me to the ER. I knew as soon as I had fallen that I had been injured quite badly.
When I arrived at ER I was surprised that there was no-one else waiting so I was seen very quickly. I was taken to x-ray and a short time later was shown the x-rays and told that I had fractured my arm at the top of the humerus just below the shoulder joint. I was given a sling and some pain meds and told to arrange a follow-up appointment for the following week.
As I’m right handed and live alone, my first thought was “how am I going to cope?”. A couple of hours after I got home I walked to the bathroom and as I got to the door dizziness came over me and I fell backwards onto the floor.
I had never felt so vulnerable in my life. Being alone, no-one would know what had happened to me and I didn’t have anyone to help me. I lay on the floor not knowing how I was going to get up with my arm being so immobilized and painful. I lay there for a few minutes saying to myself “I’m going to be fine, I’m going to be fine, I’m going to be fine”.
After a few minutes, I managed to get up off the floor and went to sit down on the couch. I started to feel better and knew I was going to be OK.
So what has this to do with integrating body, mind, and spirit you might ask.
It has been my injury which has taught me that this power really exists.
Does the Mind Control the Body?
This morning I read an email by Madisyn Taylor from Daily Om which starts by saying
Our bodies are living, breathing expressions of our consciousness and should be treated as such.
Ever since my spiritual awakening and my interest in the Law of Attraction and manifestation, I have believed that the body is influenced by our consciousness and emotions. Bruce Lipton goes into great detail on this subject in his excellent book The Biology of Belief. Furthermore, Quantum Physics has proved that consciousness affects matter. Scientific research is continuing to explain the science behind manifestation.
In my research I also found an article by Sondra Barrett PhD about Cell Intelligence.
Dr. Joe Dispenza has many articles and videos on the subject of spontaneous remission and the body/mind connection and in this short video he shares the healing power of the body/mind connection:
Our bodies respond to our consciousness and if we are filled with fear, stress and negative thoughts we develop dis-ease. So if our state of mind can create disease, surely it follows that with the right state of mind we can heal ourselves.
Now, I’m not suggesting that we rule out conventional medicine because it plays an important role when used in the right way but we can use a combination of physical, mental and spiritual approaches to facilitate healing.
Using The Power of Neutrality to Find the Gift and Facilitate Healing
The Power of Neutrality is at the heart of my coaching and teaching because it is a powerful tool for raising consciousness. It is a universal law that everything is neutral until we assign an interpretation to it. I describe it like walking a tightrope where the tightrope is the neutral starting point and we can consciously choose our response to events or situations. This is also a critical element in the art and science of manifestation.
We can choose to remain neutral when situations are trivial and of no importance. For more significant events we can choose to either step off to the left of the tightrope into the abyss of negativity or we can step off to the right onto the solid ground of positivity.
I always choose to look for the positive in every situation because I believe that everything happens for a reason and that there is a gift in everything, even if it may be completely hidden at the time. It was certainly hidden when I was injured!!
How to use the Power of Neutrality to manifest healing
One of the fundamental aspects of the Law of Attraction and manifestation is that you get what you focus on; energy flows where attention goes.
As soon as the accident happened I chose to focus on gratitude for the divine timing of my neighbors’ walk so they saw me fall and helped me home. I was also grateful for them driving me to the ER and that I was seen straight away and didn’t have to wait in line. I chose to be positive rather than negative.
When I first got the diagnosis that my arm had a serious fracture I immediately chose to focus on a positive outcome and reached out to my friends on Facebook asking for prayers and healing. I also focused on healing my fracture with intention and visualization. I knew that if I focused on the problem and the injury I would be sending energy to it and perhaps sabotaging the healing process.
A week later I returned to the hospital for more x-rays and a consultation with the orthopedic department. The second set of x-rays showed more clearly the extent of my injuries.
Here are two photographs showing the x-ray on the day of my fall and the x-ray which was taken a week later (from a different angle). The second x-ray shows the head of the humerus partly detached from the shaft of the bone.
The prognosis was that the fracture would require surgery, even possibly a complete shoulder replacement. I was told I needed a CT Scan which would reveal more about the severity of the fracture and enable them to decide on whether and what form of surgery I would need.
I refused to be discouraged and set my mind on manifesting miraculous healing requiring no surgery. I also requested that my friends continued to send prayers and healing so I could add the power of the collective consciousness to my intentions.
After the first few days, I was conscious of how the pain had subsided and how I only experienced pain with certain movements. I believe this was because I was focused on healing rather than pain (remember, you get what you focus on) because focusing on pain usually results in tension in the body that makes the pain worse (what you resist persists). By not focusing on the pain and relaxing into it I actually experienced very little pain as long as I was careful not to put stress on the joint.
If I moved in a way that caused pain, I spoke lovingly to my body and assured it I would avoid movements that caused stress to my shoulder. I connected with my body much more than I have ever done before and I believe it responded.
Day by Day my mobility increased. The CT Scan was performed 10 days later and 3 weeks after the fall I got a call from the hospital with the diagnosis. I was thrilled and excited to learn that despite the severity of the fracture I would not need surgery and that the fracture would heal over time with a gradual recovery of mobility in my shoulder, aided by gentle exercise.
Body, Mind and Spirit Working Together
At my most recent visit to the orthopedic unit, I was told how well the healing and my mobility were progressing despite the severity of the fracture. I am continuing to focus on manifesting a full recovery and believe I am well on the way to achieving it.
I truly believe that we all have the power to facilitate healing by working in harmony – using the power of the mind, the power of manifestation and by communication lovingly with our body.
I have been a student of manifestation and the Law of Attraction since 2006 and I put my findings on how to make manifestation work for you in my book Empowered Manifestation – pick up a copy HERE.
